What I Did Last Summer

Actually, what I am doing this summer, but "What I Did Last Summer" sounded so much cooler. Finished cleaning the two art rooms at school, had family visiting and a trip down the shore and am now back to artwork, working on my room, hanging out with friends and school prep.
Probably have a list of about 15 things to do in my room. So far I have painted my room, bought new window treatments, painted my closet which meant emptying my closet--huge task that involved sorting clothes and parting ways with 5 bags of clothes and shoes.
Today's project was re-covering my piano bench. Below is the before pic. I had painted it a few years back and covered it with this green and pink fabric.

I went to Joanne Fabric and bought these two fabrics.

Went with the more classic piece. Had a friend advise on this. Will use the more contemporary fabric for pillows.

Here is the finished piece. Can see my wall color: Clear Skies from Benjamin Moore. Still need to do trim and doors. Don't mind the linoleum floor. Room has been measured, just need to pick my carpet. Hoping to use a remnant to save some money. In my dream world the floor would be wood but that isn't in the budget. Cost for bench is $5- fabric plus staples. Bought the wire baskets at Marshalls. They were $18- total.  I'm not sure what I'm putting in them yet. Possibly magazines?

Soar Into Art: Elementary Art Room

This week just flew by. Spent 3 days working in my elementary school art room. Probably need 3 more. Decided to make pennants for my room this year. Bought scrap book paper, created a template for the size/shape and laminated all of them. Used letters I had and attached them with funtak. My main colors this year are green and orange and I am using birds for my theme.

This is my free art area. Keep supplies here that students may use freely. Still need to finish up the bulletin board.

This, I'm sure many of you have seen on pinterest. Made one to use for classroom management this year. Getting rid of some furniture in my room that takes up too much space and trying to consolidate. My room has no closet so it's hard to keep everything neat looking all of the time. Hoping to finish this room up the beginning of next week. Will photograph everything to show you!

Finished

This took a long time and I can't believe I never took any before pics. My bathroom was sponge painted yellow before the grey. I love grey. Can't tell you the color because I bought it and it was too purple so I added yellow to it to get it to the grey I wanted.

Flower prints from IKEA.

This was a re-decorating project not a remodeling project. The toothbrush holder and soap dish are both from Home Goods.
I don't have room for a medicine cabinet so most things are stored in the drawers but the everyday items are gathered on this tray.
Plate on wall was a gift from my son. One of my favorite things from him.

Colors are a bit off in the photos. My counter is not that pink!

Drawer pulls are from Pottery Barn. Love these!

The runner hanging on the wall is from my grandmother.

The new towel bars are from Home Depot. Love these and they were so easy to install.

My bookshelf was originally lightly stained pine. I primed it, rubbed stain on and off,  rubbed two paint colors on and off, and finally polyurethaned it twice.

Storage for washcloths is an old canister that used to hold the buttons I used to string when I was little.

Shower curtain, Bed, Bath and Beyond.

Hook is from Container Store. Keys are from Michael's.
This project, even though not big took quite a while to put together. Just didn't find everything at once. Love the way it turned out and the colors are very soothing.
White towels are from Kohl's and Rust and pink towels are from Sears.

Cabana update

Okay, I must admite defeat.  I am not "every woman".  I started to stain the cabana and first I noticed that the nail holes were showing on the trim so they needed to be puttied.  The second thing was I lasted an hour and felt like I was going to throw up from the smell and heat.  So, we were hiring someone to stain the outside-same color that it is- and now they are going to finish the inside for me.  I must admit I hate painting!!  Love to paint as an artist but not rooms.

Hot!!

Bought the stain for the inside of the cabana.  Will take before and after pics to show you.  Was advised by the paint store not to stain until late in the day, when the temperature goes down.  I think I will do it in my bathing suit so I can jump in once in a while.
My main problem with projects is finishing them.  I love starting things.  So I will continue to post on my projects to push thru the end.  The pic shows the cabana with the door open.  The inside is wainscoting.  The fridge is on the ground outside the door.  Need to spray paint that white.  The adirondack chair is from llbean.  Have another one to put together yet--see I told you I have a hard time finishing things.

Changes

What changes are you looking to make this year?  Be it something like losing weight, finding a new job or starting a meditation practice,...
