Transformation, 8th Grade

This was a new project this year.  It went well and students worked hard and seemed to enjoy the process.  They were to take images from a magazine and transform them.

Student could choose 3-6 images from a magazine and cut these images into 2x2 squares.  They created a 2x2 grid on their paper and glued the pictures to the squares wherever they wanted to.  From there they could re-draw the image and square by square transform the image.  They could use color, shape, line and texture to accomplish this.  Some took two of the images and melded them together.

They could choose to use pencil, markers, colored pencils or crayons.

I loved his concept.  My students were quite inspired after viewing his blog and trying their hand at creating poetry with the horoscopes from the newspaper.   For their project they were given a few perimeters to follow:  create layers to the project, include words, and have a message.  These are from the end of last year but I still wanted to share them.  

The Eyes Have It

8th graders followed a lesson plan from United Art and Education, which is part of a competition.  I can't decide if I like the realistic eyes or the abstracted eyes.

Students in 8th grade art learn more about themselves and modern art.  Following this assignment they started their self-portraits.
